Happy Guy Fawkes Day

Remember, remember the 5th of November...

Greetings from Stanford at Oxford where we are currently celebrating Guy Fawkes Day with plenty of festivals and fireworks! So today is basically a national holiday commemorating the prevention of a terrorist attack on London in 1605. See V for Vendetta for details...

Oxford is awesome, so we thought we would cue you in on a little bit of fun we are having from across the pond...

For Halloween we got into the true Stanford spirit and had a progressive because Halloween here isn't that big of a deal. Although the British only dress up in 'scary' costumes... we had a couple of other things in mind:

Hmmm... indeed...yes, we believe this is Sherlock Holmes and trusty companion Watson investigating a bloody thumbprint?!? Actually bloody, not the "bloody" as in swearing "bloody", which doesn't happen here as often as one might think.

Things we are bringing back to Stanford:

1. Formal Hall - Weekly dress up dinners hosted by the dining hall. Three course meal + wine, perhaps we'll leave out the random Latin speeches when we bring it to The Farm.

2. "Pennying" - If you are holding a glass of anything and someone drops a penny into it then you must down all of the drink otherwise the queen will drown. We don't want that now do we?

Worst "penny" we've seen to date... coffee creamer. yuck.

3. Tea time - Nothing better then a warm tea and freshly baked scone!

4. Harry Potter -Just kidding.

But we did see Alan Rickman (Snape) and Ian McKellen (Gandalf) at Stratford upon Avon a couple of weeks ago. So magical. Not even joking.

Best quotation yet:

S: Did you know that they call suspenders "braces" here?
M: Well then what do they call braces, like teeth braces?
Z: They don't have those here.

----ZING----

More to come later. Cheers!
