Toby Gerhart Going Pro

tobygerhart.jpgToby Gerhart announced today that he is officially entering the NFL draft. Gerhart ran for a school-record 1,871 yards and a nation-leading 28 touchdowns this past season. He won the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back and finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting. He finished second for putting up the best stats against the best competition and for being consistently great, but that is an argument for another day. More importantly he was a big part of a program making a huge turnaround. His first season on the farm Stanford was 1-11. Needless to say things got much better this year as the Cardinal found themselves in a bowl game for the first time since 2001.
Gerhart will definitely be missed, and he is one of the greatest to ever wear the Cardinal jersey. If you are a fair weather fan or just a little worried–don’t worry, the future is bright. There are a stable of running backs ready and able to replace Toby’s production, and I have a feeling we are going to see Andrew Luck to Chris Owusu, or Ryan Whalen, or Jamal-Rashad Patterson for a long time to come. Best of luck to Toby as he enters the NFL. Some team is going to get a steal in the draft when he slips to them in the mid-rounds.

I’m not as curious about when or where he’ll go in the draft as much as I am curious about his madden rating next year. 76 overall???
